This morning was an unexpected burst of inspiration. My girlfriend and I found ourselves glued to a YouTube channel showcasing small business owners in South Korea. It’s fascinating to watch their journeys, and I could see the spark in her eyes as we witnessed their successes. As a food restaurant owner, she was particularly captivated. It filled me with hope for our future—maybe one day we could both live and thrive in South Korea, possibly running her own business there. That idea brought me so much joy this morning.
I hadn’t planned to spend my morning this way. Initially, I aimed to dive straight into work by 10 a.m., but life happens. Sometimes, the unplanned moments turn out to be the most enriching. Reflecting on our recent trip to her hometown near Ho Chi Minh City, where we visited her parents and sorted out some banking matters for her loans, I realize how little work I got done over the weekend. I tried to refactor my app, implementing React context for better data fetching logic. The codebase is growing, making the refactoring quite challenging. But, I’m optimistic that once it’s done, the app will feel much faster.
Lately, I’ve been questioning if it’s worth continuing this path. Should I keep pushing for this job board idea, or pivot to something more focused? Perhaps a niche job board just for engineering positions in Korea, considering our three-year plan to move there. Expanding it to all of Asia seems impractical—it would stretch my resources and energy too thin. As an indie hacker, I need to recognize my limits. Concentrating on Korea-specific tech jobs might be the more logical and manageable route.
I'm looking at expat-friendly (tech) jobs, preferably remote and compatible with the Asia timezone. Perhaps time to start another side hustle? How much more can I add to my plate?? pic.twitter.com/WV6NFWIvpH
